One to one strength coaching for men and women 50 and over, in a private gym in Cuckfield. You will learn to lift properly, get measurably stronger, and keep doing the things you do now for a great deal longer.
Everything starts from what you can do today. No assumption that you were an athlete once, and no plan copied from somebody half your age.
No group to keep up with, no class pace, no waiting for equipment. The hour is yours and the attention is undivided.
Calm, quiet and a long way from a busy commercial gym floor. Easy to reach from across Mid Sussex.
Cardiovascular fitness picks up a lot of help from ordinary living. Walking, gardening, stairs, carrying the shopping. None of it is training and all of it counts for something.
Strength gets almost none of that help. Very little in a modern week loads the body hard enough to keep the muscle you have, and nothing at all gradually asks for more. If it is not trained deliberately, nothing else picks up the slack.
That is the whole case for doing this after fifty, and it is a narrower claim than the ones usually made at this age. Not a reversal of anything. Not a second youth. Simply the one input that keeps you capable, which happens to be the one input a normal week leaves out.
The aim is not to make you a gym person. It is to make the next thirty years easier to live in.
Fifteen minutes on the phone. What you want, what you have tried, what your week looks like, and anything your body is currently complaining about.
We meet one to one and go through your movement, your history and your health screening, so the plan is built on what is actually there.
Once or twice a week, around an hour. You are taught each movement, the weight goes up when you are ready for it, and your numbers are written down.
Stairs, shopping, the garden and getting out of a low chair without using your arms. The ordinary things, made to cost you less.
More control through the hip, ankle and trunk, so uneven ground and changing direction feel less like something to think about.
Working through a comfortable range, deliberately and often, so the first ten minutes of the morning stop being a negotiation.
Muscle and bone respond to being asked for something. This is the asking, done properly and kept up over years.
Luke is kind and sensitive to the fact I’m in my 40s and just starting my journey. He was able to translate gym jargon into easy to understand language and I’m really excited to work with him and see my progress. Gyms can be intimidating, but Luke made sure I felt comfortable and supported. Cannot recommend him enough if you’re looking for a 1-2-1 PT.
Luke has given me the confidence I was lacking in the gym, especially around weights. The app is great for recording and timing your activity, and the feedback is done weekly. All in all a great experience.
Great PT with friendly and helpful advice.
On the call I will tell you honestly whether I think I can help. If your situation needs a physiotherapist, a specialist or simply a different kind of coach, I will tell you that and point you somewhere better. That has cost me clients and it has never once cost me sleep.
There is no charge for the call, no obligation afterwards, and nobody will chase you. If it is not right, it is not right.
No, and this is the question I get asked most. Strength responds to training at every age that has been studied. Starting later means starting from where you are and progressing sensibly, which is what one to one coaching is for. It does not mean the training stops working.
At the beginning, which is the normal starting point here rather than something to apologise for. The first sessions are about learning four or five movements properly. There is no test, and nothing is loaded until the pattern is right.
Tell me about all of it on the call. Your health is screened before you train and the plan is built around what you tell me rather than around what a template assumes. Where something needs a GP or a physiotherapist to look at it first, I will say so rather than guess.
No. There is nobody else in the room to keep up with and no class pace to match. Difficulty is a conversation, and the sessions are meant to leave you feeling better than when you arrived rather than wiped out.
Once or twice a week, around an hour each time. That is the whole commitment. Walking on the other days does more for you than a third session would.
It depends whether you train once or twice a week. I will give you the exact numbers on the call so you can decide with the full picture. There is no charge for the call and no obligation afterwards.
Fifteen minutes, no cost, no obligation. Tell me where you are starting from and I will tell you honestly what it would take.
