Where most people start

You know strength matters. You just need to know where to start.

You do not need to already be fit, confident in a gym or experienced with weights. Most people I coach are starting from scratch, or coming back after years away.

  • You have never felt like a gym person. Your session is private, one-to-one and built around you.
  • You want to feel stronger in everyday life. Carrying, gardening, travel, and getting up off the floor.
  • You do not want to guess. You are shown what to do, why it is there and how to progress it.

Most people start with a call. No cost, and nothing is booked on it.

Strength Foundations

A coached 12-week introduction to strength training.

Strength Foundations is for adults who want to learn strength training properly without being thrown into a busy gym or left to work it out alone. The first 12 weeks give you a clear starting point, coached sessions, sensible progression and the confidence to keep building.

  • 01

    Start where you are

We begin with your goals, training history, health information and current ability.

  • 02

    Learn the movements

You learn the basic patterns: squat, hinge, push, pull and carry, using variations that suit you.

  • 03

    Build progressively

Reps, load and exercise difficulty increase when you are ready, not because a calendar says they should.

  • 04

    Keep progressing

By week 12 you have a stronger base, better technique and a clear route forward.

What to expect

  • A free consultation before anything is booked or paid for.
  • A one-to-one starting session covering your goals, history and health.
  • Coached sessions where technique is taught rather than assumed.
  • A programme written for you, and rewritten as you progress.
  • Your numbers written down, so progress is visible rather than guessed at.

I will tell you honestly whether the twelve weeks are right for you.

What it helps with

Strength for the life you actually want to live.

The point is not to become good at going to the gym. It is to build physical confidence for everything outside it.

  • Stairs, shopping, the garden and getting up off the floor
  • Feeling steadier on uneven ground and changing direction
  • Moving with less stiffness first thing in the morning
  • Knowing the strength you are building is there for the years ahead

Why LRPT

Coaching built around you, in a private gym.

  • Every session coached. I watch the work, coach the technique and track what is improving.
  • Complete beginners welcome. You do not need to get fit before you start.
  • Progress you can see. Reps and loads written down, so it is visible rather than assumed.
  • No gym-floor intimidation. One to one, in a private gym in Cuckfield.
Is this a fit

This will probably suit you if...

You have never been a gym person

and would rather not start in a room full of people who look like they already know what they are doing.

You want to feel stronger in ordinary life

carrying, gardening, stairs, travel, and getting up off the floor without having to think about it.

You have tried before and it did not stick

usually because nothing was building on anything, and there was no way to tell whether it was working.

You are coming back after years away

and want to start at a sensible level rather than where you left off a decade ago.

You would rather be taught than guess

shown what to do, why it is in your plan, and when it is time to add to it.

You want to stay capable

and would rather put the work in now than spend the next twenty years wishing you had.

And honestly, when it is not

  • You want a rapid overhaul before a particular date.
  • You are an experienced lifter after advanced programming.
  • You are looking for treatment for an injury or a health condition.

If one of those is you, I will say so on the call and point you somewhere better rather than take the booking.

If you are not sure which of those you are, that is what the call is for.

What clients say

Luke is kind and sensitive to the fact I’m in my 40s and just starting my journey. He was able to translate gym jargon into easy to understand language and I’m really excited to work with him and see my progress. Gyms can be intimidating, but Luke made sure I felt comfortable and supported. Cannot recommend him enough if you’re looking for a 1-2-1 PT.
Hayley Wicker-BradburyIn her 40s, new to training
Luke has given me the confidence I was lacking in the gym, especially around weights. The app is great for recording and timing your activity, and the feedback is done weekly. All in all a great experience.

FAQ

Questions people ask

I have not trained in years. Is this for me?

Yes. Most people I coach are beginners or returning after a long break. We start from your current level and build gradually.

Do I need to be fit before I start?

No. Getting fit first is not a prerequisite. The coaching is designed to start from where you are now.

What if gyms make me feel intimidated?

That is one of the reasons the coaching is one-to-one in a private gym. There is no busy gym floor and nobody to keep up with.

How often would I train?

Most people start with one or two coached sessions each week. We decide what makes sense based on your goals, experience and schedule.

What happens in the first 12 weeks?

You learn the key movements, build confidence with weights, establish a repeatable training routine and progressively develop your strength.

What if I have an injury or health condition?

Health is screened before training. Coaching stays within personal-training scope and exercises can be adapted where appropriate. If something needs assessment by a GP, physiotherapist or other clinician, I will say so rather than guess.

What happens after 12 weeks?

Coaching can continue on a rolling four-weekly basis for as long as it remains useful.

Where does training take place?

All sessions take place in a private gym in Cuckfield, West Sussex, within easy driving distance of Haywards Heath, Balcombe and nearby Mid Sussex villages.
