6 minFrom Lindfield by car

Most people who contact me from Lindfield have already tried the obvious things. A membership that got proper use for about five weeks. A running app in January. A pair of dumbbells in the spare room that quietly became somewhere to hang washing. None of that means you lack discipline. It usually means the thing you picked never fitted the life you actually had, and it was never going to.

I coach one to one from a private setup in Cuckfield with parking right outside the door. There is no reception to walk through, no queue for a rack, and no music you did not choose. If you have been looking for a PT in Lindfield and nothing has quite fitted, I am about two miles down the road.

The six minute problem, and why it decides everything

Distance dictates consistency far more than motivation does. Six minutes each way is a rounding error in your evening. Forty minutes each way is a decision you have to make again three times a week, and sooner or later you stop making it. That is the honest reason personal training in Lindfield works best when it happens close to home. You can leave the house at ten to seven and be lifting by seven.

Parking at my end is easy and free. That sounds like a small thing until you have circled a car park in the rain while your session time ticks down. You pull up, you come in, we start.

Walking the common is a start, not a plan

Plenty of people in the village keep their step count healthy around the pond and the common, and that genuinely counts for something. Walking helps your heart, your sleep and your head. What walking will not do is hold on to muscle as you move through your forties and fifties, or make your lower back feel better after a day folded into a desk chair. For that you have to load the body properly and progressively, with someone watching how you move while you do it. That is the gap I fill, and it is the reason a lot of already active people end up hiring a coach.

Who I actually train

The people searching for a personal trainer in Lindfield are rarely athletes. Mine are mostly between thirty and sixty five. Parents. People with demanding jobs. I am a dad with a full time job myself, so I am not going to pretend you can train six days a week or eat six identical meals out of plastic tubs. Two or three sessions a week, done properly and repeated for months, beats a heroic fortnight followed by nothing.

  • Complete beginners who have never picked up a barbell and would rather not learn in front of an audience
  • People coming back after five, ten or twenty years away from training
  • Anyone carrying a stiff back, sore knees or a shoulder that has never been right since
  • Parents who want weight loss in Lindfield to happen without turning family dinners into a project
  • Walkers, runners and cyclists who keep picking up the same niggles
  • People who have had a health check they did not love and want to do something useful about it

If you want someone to shout at you, I am the wrong choice. If you want someone who will tell you plainly what to do next, and then change it when your week falls apart, we will get on fine.

What an hour with me looks like

Sessions usually run an hour. We open with whatever your body needs that day to move well, then get into the work that actually changes things: pushing, pulling, squatting, hinging, carrying. Real weight, chosen for where you are right now rather than where you feel you ought to be. I coach every rep. If something hurts, we change it there and then rather than have you grit your teeth through it and pay for it on Thursday.

Everything gets written down. Not for the sake of paperwork, but because in eight weeks you will have forgotten what you could lift on day one, and seeing that in black and white on a low week is worth more than any pep talk I could give you. There is more detail on how it works if you want the full picture before you call.

Food, without a list of banned things

Nutrition coaching comes as part of it. There is no meal plan and nothing is forbidden. I have never once seen a rigid plan survive a birthday, a holiday or a genuinely bad Tuesday. Instead we look at what you already eat, find the two or three changes that would make a real difference, and build slowly from there. Protein, portion sizes and alcohol are usually where the wins hide. If losing weight is your goal, this part matters more than anything that happens with a dumbbell in your hand.

Training around the London train

A lot of people here commute from Haywards Heath into London, and that shapes the whole week. Early starts, late returns, and a body that spends two chunks of every day sitting still. Early morning and evening slots exist precisely for this. If your diary is genuinely unpredictable, say so at the start and we will build a schedule you can hold rather than one that looks impressive written down. I cover much the same ground for clients coming from Haywards Heath just next door, and you can see the full spread of villages I work with across Mid Sussex.

Start with a conversation, not a commitment

Everyone begins the same way, with a free consultation that costs nothing and commits you to nothing. We talk about what you want and what has gone wrong before. I take you through a health questionnaire and a movement screen, so I can see how your hips, shoulders and spine actually behave instead of guessing. Then I tell you honestly whether I am the right person, and roughly what the first couple of months would involve.

Some people leave that conversation and decide the timing is wrong for them. That is a perfectly good outcome and I would rather you reached it before paying me anything. If something you describe sounds like it needs a doctor first, I will say so and ask you to speak to your GP before we train. If travel really will not work, online coaching exists instead, although for Lindfield the drive is short enough that in person is almost always the better call.

If what you want is a fitness coach in Lindfield who keeps things simple, keeps things honest, and is stood next to you for every set, get in touch and we will find you a time that fits.

FAQ

Personal training in Lindfield: common questions

How long does it take to get to you from Lindfield?

About two miles, so roughly six minutes in the car depending on how the High Street is behaving. Most clients find the journey shorter than the walk from a leisure centre car park to the weights floor.

Where do I park?

Directly outside the studio, free, and there is always space because I only train one person at a time. You will not be circling anywhere.

I commute into London. Can I still train regularly?

Yes. Early morning and evening slots are built for commuters. Tell me your realistic week at the consultation and we will set a pattern you can actually hold, usually two or three sessions.

I have not exercised in years. Will I be out of place?

No. Beginners and returners are the majority of who I work with, and there is nobody else in the room to watch. We start from where you are, which is exactly what the movement screen is for.

What happens at the first appointment?

It is free and there is no obligation. We talk through your goals and history, you complete a health questionnaire, and I run a movement screen. You leave knowing what I would do with you and whether it suits you.
