Personal Training for Ansty

Live in Ansty and you already drive for most things. Cuckfield is one of them, and it is about six minutes. That is where I coach, one client at a time, in private.

  • Sessions run in Cuckfield, 6 minutes away
  • Parents and professionals, 30 plus
  • Beginners welcome

6 minFrom Ansty by car

Ansty is small. That is most of its appeal, and it is also why nobody in the village is going to open anything to train in. So the honest starting point for personal training in Ansty is that you will be getting in the car either way. The only real question is how far, and what you get when you arrive.

From the village to my setup in Cuckfield is roughly two miles. Six minutes, give or take whatever the A272 is doing. Parking is outside the door and free. There is one person training at a time, which is you.

What you are actually paying for

Not a room. Rooms are easy to find. What you are paying for is somebody who watches every rep you do, knows what your left knee did last month, and changes the plan when your week goes sideways. That is the difference between having somewhere to exercise and having a coach.

I train people one to one and nothing else. No classes. No groups. If you have been searching for a PT in Ansty and finding either nothing or things that are really just memberships, that distinction is worth understanding before you spend anything.

Most of my clients start out nervous

It comes up in nearly every first conversation, usually apologetically. They have not trained in years. They do not know what any of the equipment is for. They have a knee that clicks and a back that goes now and then. They are worried about looking foolish.

Beginners and returners are not the exception in my week, they are the bulk of it. And there is nobody else in the room, which removes the whole problem at a stroke. Nobody is waiting for your bench. Nobody is watching you learn. The first time you pick up a barbell it will be with one person in front of you, and that person is being paid to make sure it goes well.

I am a dad with a demanding full time job. Most of the people I coach are somewhere between thirty and sixty five and in the same boat. Nobody here is training for a competition. They want to feel strong, move without pain, sleep properly and keep up with their kids or their walking or their garden.

Strength first, and why

Sessions run about an hour. We warm up for what we are actually going to do, then work through the movements that matter: squat, hinge, push, pull, carry. Weight that suits you today, progressed as you earn it. I am there for every set, correcting as we go, so you are not left guessing whether your back should feel like that.

Cardio is fine and I am not going to talk you out of your walking. But holding on to muscle is the thing that quietly decides how the next twenty years go, and you cannot do that by walking alone. Strength work is what protects your joints, keeps your metabolism where you want it, and makes the everyday stuff feel lighter. That is why it is the spine of every programme I write.

Eating, without a rulebook

Nutrition coaching is part of the deal. My approach is deliberately unglamorous. Nothing is banned, nothing is weighed out on a Sunday, and there is no plan telling you what Thursday lunch has to be. Plans like that survive about a month and then a holiday kills them.

We start with what you already eat, because that is the thing you have proved you can do. Then we adjust the handful of things that actually move the needle: protein, portions, drinks, and how often food is decided at half past six with nothing in the fridge. If weight loss in Ansty is what brought you here, that last one is usually the culprit rather than any lack of effort.

What a realistic week looks like

Two or three sessions with me, an hour each, plus whatever you were already doing. That is it. I would rather you did three sessions a week for a year than six a week for a month.

People expect me to ask for more than that. I do not, because I have watched what happens when a trainer builds a week that only a person with no children and no job could keep. It works beautifully for a fortnight and then collapses, and the client concludes they are the problem. They were not. The plan was.

  • Two or three hour long sessions, at a fixed time you can defend
  • Simple things to do between sessions, usually walking and one or two habits
  • Nutrition adjusted gradually, never all at once
  • Progress written down so you can see it on the weeks it does not feel like progress
  • Plans that get changed when work, illness or family says they must

Honest about the drive

Six minutes is short enough that I do not think anyone in Ansty needs talking into it. It is comparable to nipping to Haywards Heath, which most people here do without a second thought. If you are already heading through Cuckfield regularly, a session slots into that pattern rather than adding to it.

If the timing genuinely will not work, say so and I will tell you straight. For some people the answer is online coaching instead, and for others it is simply the wrong season of life and we speak again in six months. I would rather that than sell you sessions you will not attend. You can see the other villages and towns I cover around Mid Sussex, including the Haywards Heath side if that is where your day tends to take you.

How it starts

With a free consultation that commits you to nothing. We sit down, you tell me what you want and what has not worked before, and I take you through a health questionnaire and a movement screen. The screen matters more than people expect, because it is where I find out that one hip does not rotate, or that your shoulder cannot get overhead comfortably, before I ask you to load either of them.

You leave that conversation knowing what I would do with you and roughly how long it would take. If something you tell me needs a doctor rather than a personal trainer, I will say so and ask you to see your GP first. There is more on the process at how it works.

If you want a fitness coach in Ansty who will be honest with you, keep the plan simple, and be in the room for every single set, book that first conversation and we will see whether it fits.

FAQ

Personal training in Ansty: common questions

How long is the drive from Ansty?

Around two miles and about six minutes, depending on the A272. It is a shorter run than most of the trips people in the village already make in a normal week.

There is nothing to train at in Ansty. Is Cuckfield the nearest option?

For one to one coaching it is certainly among the closest. Most people here drive to Cuckfield or Haywards Heath for things anyway, so a session tends to slot into a journey you were already making.

Is parking easy?

Yes. There is free parking right outside and it is never contested, because only one person trains at a time.

I commute and my evenings are unpredictable. What then?

Mornings tend to be more reliable for commuters because nothing can move them. We agree the pattern at the consultation and pick times you can protect.

What happens before I commit to anything?

A free, no obligation consultation. We talk, you complete a health questionnaire, and I run a movement screen. You get an honest answer about whether I can help before any money changes hands.
