AboutHi, I am Luke.
I coach adults 40+ one to one in a private gym in Cuckfield, most of them new to strength training. My job is to teach you the movements properly, build your confidence with weights and progress you sensibly, so training becomes something you can keep doing.

My story, in short
Most of the people I coach have work, family and plenty else going on. They have no interest in making fitness their whole identity, and they are not looking to spend their lives in a gym.
What they have usually worked out is that strength matters, and that it matters more as the years go on. What they have not worked out is where to start, and whether they would be doing it right.
That gap is the whole job.
Strength training pays back well for the time it takes, but only when it is coached and progressed properly. Done badly it is a waste of an hour at best. Done well, a couple of sessions a week changes what you are capable of.
So I keep it understandable. I explain what we are doing and why, teach the movements from the beginning, and progress you when you are ready rather than on a schedule. You should always know what you are doing and what it is for.
I coach one to one in a private gym in Cuckfield. No busy gym floor, no classes, nobody watching. For people who have never felt comfortable in a gym, that turns out to matter a great deal.
What that means in practice
- Technique first. Strength built on bad habits is strength you eventually have to undo.
- Sensible progression. Load moves when you are ready for it, not because a programme says week four.
- Private one to one sessions. Nobody learns well when they feel watched.
- Explained, not just instructed. You should understand why an exercise is in your plan.
- Honest about scope. Where something needs a GP or a physio, I say so rather than guess.
Who I work with
- Adults 40+ who are new, or fairly new, to strength training
- Men and women who want to stay strong and capable for the years ahead
- Complete beginners who feel out of place in a commercial gym
- People returning after years off, an injury or an illness
- Anyone who would rather be taught properly than work it out alone
If I do not think I am the right person to help you, I will tell you and point you somewhere better. That has cost me clients and it has never once cost me sleep.
Luke RobinsonThe point of getting stronger is not to become good at going to the gym. It is to stay capable for the life you want to keep living, and to feel confident in your own body while you do it. Everything I coach comes back to that.
