About 10 minutes from BolneyPersonal Training for Bolney
Bolney is rural, so you already drive for most things. Cuckfield is about four miles and ten minutes of it. What you get at the other end is an hour of coaching with nobody else in the room.
- Sessions run in Cuckfield, 10 minutes away
- Parents and professionals, 30 plus
- Beginners welcome
The test I would apply if I were you
Any drive has to earn itself. Ten minutes each way, twice or three times a week, adds up over a year, and you should be clear about what you are getting for it before you agree to anything. So here is the honest version. You are not driving to a room full of machines. You are driving to one hour where somebody is watching how you move, adjusting what you lift, and keeping a record of it so that decisions are made on evidence rather than mood.
If what you want is somewhere to put your headphones in and do your own thing, do not make the trip. Save yourself the fuel. If you want to be coached, and you have never really had that, ten minutes is a small price.
Rural life is harder on the body than people admit
The pattern I see again and again with clients out this way is a lot of driving, a lot of sitting, and long gaps between anything that counts as effort. The A23 eats an hour of the day. The desk takes another eight. Then a burst of weekend activity lands on a body that has not been asked to do anything demanding since the previous Saturday, and something in the lower back or the shoulder complains about it.
That is not an age problem, it is a loading problem. Bodies stiffen when nothing is asked of them and then get hurt when everything is asked at once. Regular, moderate, well coached strength work sits in the middle and quietly solves most of it.
What we actually do in the hour
Sessions run about an hour and are built around five things: squatting, hinging, pushing, pulling and carrying. Every one of them shows up in ordinary life, which is the point. We load them properly, progress them as you earn it, and I coach each rep rather than counting them from across the room.
Most people train two or three times a week. That is enough to change how you feel within a couple of months, and it is few enough that you can protect it when work turns nasty. If something causes pain we change it immediately. If it sounds like it needs a doctor rather than a personal trainer, I will tell you to go and see your GP, and I will not train around a problem that ought to be looked at properly.
You do not need to get fit before you start
This is the single most common thing that delays people. They plan to do a few weeks on their own first so they are not embarrassed. Then those weeks never happen, and another year goes by.
Beginners are my normal client. So are people who last trained twenty years ago. There is no one else in the room, no waiting list for a piece of equipment, and no expectation of a starting point. If you have been putting off finding a PT in Bolney until you were in better shape, that is the wrong way round. Getting you into better shape is the job.
- Complete beginners who want to be taught properly from the first session
- People returning after ten or twenty years away from any training
- Desk workers and drivers with backs, hips and shoulders that have seized up
- Parents in their forties and fifties who want weight loss in Bolney to be sustainable rather than dramatic
- Anyone who wants a fitness coach in Bolney and would rather not train in a crowd
Food, handled like an adult
Nutrition coaching comes with the training. There is no meal plan, no list of forbidden foods and nothing to weigh out. I have never seen a strict plan outlast a holiday, and I would rather build something unremarkable that you still follow next winter.
We look at what you eat now, then change the small number of things that genuinely matter. Getting enough protein. Sensible portions. Being honest about alcohol. Having something in the house on the evenings when nobody has planned anything, which out here matters more than it does in a town, because there is no popping out for an alternative. Do those consistently and the weight side takes care of itself without a diet you dread.
Where I am and how you get there
The studio is in Cuckfield, which is about four miles from Bolney and roughly ten minutes by car. Parking is free and directly outside, so there is no hunting for a space and no walk at the other end. Cuckfield is a village and it is easy to reach, which is a large part of why people come here from all the surrounding villages rather than heading into a town. You can read more about the base itself on the Cuckfield page.
Plenty of my clients live further along the same routes and I cover a fair spread of the area, which you can see across Mid Sussex. If your working day pulls you towards the station instead, the same applies to people travelling from Haywards Heath, and the timings work in much the same way.
Timing it around a commute
If you drive for work, evening slots are usually the safer bet, because your morning is at the mercy of the road. If you take the train, mornings tend to be more dependable. Either way I would rather agree two sessions a week that survive a difficult month than three that collapse the moment something changes. Consistency over a year beats intensity over a fortnight, every single time.
The first appointment is free
Everyone starts with a consultation that costs nothing and obliges you to nothing. We talk about what you want, what you have tried, what your week really looks like, and what your body has been doing lately. Then I run a health questionnaire and a movement screen, which tells me how your hips, spine and shoulders behave before I ask them to lift anything.
At the end of it you will know exactly what I would do with you and how often I think you need to be here. If I am not the right fit, I will say so. There is more on the structure at how it works, and if you decide the drive is not for you, in person is not the only option available.
If you want personal training in Bolney to mean something more than a monthly fee, book the consultation and we will find out whether this suits you.

Personal training in Bolney: common questions
How far is it from Bolney to Cuckfield?
About four miles, so roughly ten minutes in the car. It is an easy run and there is free parking outside the studio.
Is a ten minute drive worth it for one session?
It is if you want coaching rather than a room. You get an hour of undivided attention and a plan that changes as you do. If you only want somewhere to train alone, something closer will serve you better and I would say so.
I drive a lot for work and my back is stiff. Can you help?
That is a very common starting point out this way. We screen how you move first and build strength work around what your back will tolerate. If it looks like something medical, I will ask you to see your GP before we go further.
How often would I need to come?
Most people train two or three times a week for about an hour. We agree what is realistic at the consultation rather than what sounds impressive.
What happens at the first meeting?
It is free and there is no obligation. We talk through your goals and history, you complete a health questionnaire, and I take you through a movement screen. You leave with a clear idea of what training with me would involve.
